“When Govt has shown results, no one wastes time with experiments”

Presidential Advisor on Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara stated that while some people may have won the Presidential Election prematurely, Ranil Wickremesinghe will emerge victorious on September 21 without any doubt.

He made this remark yesterday (22) during the investiture of the new State Minister for Labour Vadivel Suresh.

The former Minister added that the speech by Talatha Athukorala in Parliament will resonate with the grassroots members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and will likely inspire them to rally around the United National Party (UNP) leader.

“The rural members of the SJB are fundamentally part of the UNP. These members are ready to support their leader as he systematically works towards building the country. While Nalaka Godahewa, Charitha Herath, Dullas Alahapperuma, and G.L. Peiris seem to have an influence over the SJB, the UNP members are steadily aligning themselves with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“Thalatha’s speech reached the hearts of the SJB members. I believe many will make decisions after reflecting on her words.

“There are two State Ministers working with me in the fields of foreign employment and labour. The ministry secretary and the official board remain unchanged. Therefore, the ongoing work will continue as planned. Vadivel Suresh, as the State Minister for Labour, is addressing issues related to the labour sector, the pensions of informal sector workers, and the wages of plantation workers.

“Talatha Athukorala’s speech in Parliament contains important insights that resonate with many in the political sphere. Talatha delivered her statement in Parliament with great respect. Her message is one that everyone should hear. It prompts reflection on whether it is the Samagi Jana Balawegaya or ‘Sajith Jalani Balawegaya’ that one is dealing with.

“There have always been internal conflicts within the party. Serious conflicts, like Laxman Fonseka acting independently and Sajith changing his decisions after going home. There is no clear programme. On the one hand, they communicate one thing to a TV channel, and on the other, they tell something different to Hirunika, Patali, and Bathiuddin. In the North, they promise to deliver on the 13th Amendment and more, but in the South, they deny those promises. This disingenuous way of doing politics is unsuitable for the country.

“We’ve come to know Sajith as someone who will do anything to gain political power. We don’t want leaders who will do anything for power; we need leaders who will do whatever it takes to move the country forward for its future. We’ve realised that he cannot take on the country’s risks or challenges. That’s why we took action earlier. Vadivel Suresh was also part of that decision, supporting our ministry, especially on issues like the wages of plantation workers. As a senior figure, he has always provided us with significant support in matters related to the plantation sector.

“The election is on September 21, and so far, some people believe they have already won. However, we will secure our victory on the 21st. When we win, many Parliamentarians from the SJB will join us. By that time, not only Parliament members but also party members will leave.”
