Why have electricity bills not been reduced by one-third as promised? – Kanchana
Former Minister Kanchana Wijesekera stated that, as announced on stage a month ago, the leader of the National People’s Power should explain to the country why electricity bills have not been reduced by one-third as promised. He added that information suggests the government is planning to reduce electricity bills by only six per cent, disregarding their earlier commitment.
Wijesekera was speaking at a public meeting in the Kananke area on November 2.
Further elaborating, he said, “The previous government made decisions in the country’s interest, not for personal gain, which enabled it to pull the country out of the economic crisis. As the Minister of Power and Energy, I received the most criticism at the time. Yet we made decisions not to attract votes or please the public but to benefit the people, even though these decisions brought personal disadvantages to us.
We led the country onto the right path and out of the economic crisis. But what are those in power, who made false promises to gain authority, doing today? This cycle of lies cannot continue forever, and it should not be allowed. People need to understand this.
“There is currently a shortage of Laugfs gas in the market. This shortage could lead to scarcity and a price hike in the future. Although the state can regulate Litro gas due to its government ownership, it may not be able to control Laugfs gas as it belongs to a private company. This situation could potentially cause a price increase.”
