Wijeyadasa vows to bring all levels of govt under SLFP in two years

Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, PC, the Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Front (NDF), has challenged all 37 Presidential candidates to an open debate based on Bandaranaike’s principles.

This statement was made by Dr. Rajapakshe during a public rally organised by Kapila Karunaratne, the NDF organiser for Attanagalla, in Dadagamuwa, Veyangoda, on Saturday (24).

In his speech, Rajapakshe remarked, “Although we introduced the Election Campaign Finance Act, we are heading to Court again because the Election Commission has violated the human rights of the citizens of this country. They allowed each candidate to spend Rs. 1,860 million on the election, while the declared assets of these candidates are only Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 300,000. During the COVID-19 pandemic, people were struggling to survive. In such a context, how did they find this much of money to spend? How can people who have never had a job in their lives spend Rs. 1,860 million? This can be black money, obtained through corruption, extortion, and underworld activities.

“As long as there is black money in this country, educated and decent young men and women will not have a chance to enter Parliament. In the next Parliament, we can send 200 out of 225 members home. We can give leadership to a group of young men and women who are free from corruption and fraud.

“The corrupt elements within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) have split into factions, leaving me isolated in the middle. I want to make it clear that I will never open the door to thieves, corrupt individuals, or opportunists in this movement.

“Today, at Attanagalla, I make a vow to the Bandaranaikes. Before two years pass, we will bring the Local Councils, Provincial Councils, Parliament, and the Presidency under the control of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.”
