Will re-negotiate IMF conditions – Sajith
SJB Presidential candidate and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said negotiations will be held to ease the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which have placed an unlimited burden on the people.
He pledged that he would implement an excellent public service that is people-centric regardless of caste, religion and party. The Opposition Leader arrived in Kandy yesterday (16) morning to pay reverence to the Sri Dalada Maligawa after handing over the nominations for the Presidential Election.
After paying obeisance to the sacred tooth relic, Premadasa visited the Asgiriya and Malwatte Viharayas to receive blessings of the Mahanayake Theras of the two Chapters. Later the Maha Sangha blessed the Opposition Leader by chanting seth pirith at the Natha Devala premises in Kandy.
Speaking to the media after participating in the religious programme, Premadasa said a programme to win over people by giving various privileges including bar permits is currently underway and that he will put an end to the culture of political gambling after coming to power. He also emphasized that his aim is to free the people from suffering and create a prosperous and law-abiding country.
Premadasa said that the President has declared that the country has returned to normal after putting as much burden as possible on the people and this is a new normal situation.
He said further that people have become helpless within a situation where the production economy has collapsed and people are unable to make investments and savings.
