A woman (46) arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department over fraud had jumped from the fifth floor of the CID building in Fort.
The incident had taken place around 4.30 am yesterday.
The suspect was taken to the toilet on the fifth floor and later she has jumped out from the toilet window.
She was taken into custody on a complaint by the State Mortgage and Investment Bank for defrauding Rs. 60 million.
The Police said disciplinary action will be taken against the officers who were in charge of the suspect.The deceased suspect had lent money to women facing financial difficulties in the Angoda, Rajagiriya and Wellampitiya areas. She has also created forged documents claiming that Rs. 50,000 can be obtained from the State Mortgage and Investment Bank.
Police said that she had been using a fake identity card and mobile phone numbers thus it was difficult to track down. Finally, she was arrested in Kalubowila.
