“The world of business is evolving at an unprecedented pace driven by technological advancements. Global inter connectedness is shifting societal expectations hence task-oriented leaders are needed in the present context.

To comply with that, we must gear ourselves to play fluid roles with diverse skill sets in workplaces,” said the Open University of Sri Lanka Vice Chancellor Prof P.M.C. Thilakarathna at the sixth AGM of the CEMBA/CEMPA Alumni Association, Faculty of Management Studies, of the Open University of Sri Lanka.

“Fluid roles that do not make emphasis on fixed responsibilities or confine to boundaries help foster creativity, collaboration and sense of ownership. It makes employees think out-of-the-box and bring innovations to meet challenges. Breaking constraints and shifting mindsets from rigid job-titles and embracing fluid roles will make individuals unlock their true potential and achieve great feat in workplace,” he added.

“According to the World Economic Forum, by 2028 advancements in digitalisation, Beta and artificial intelligence are projected to create 97 million new jobs while displacing 85 million existing ones. Global talent shortage is widened thus higher educational institutes that equip students with diverse job skills will power the new digital economy. The requirement now is for digital soft skills hence graduates should have two-fold qualifications, the academic degree and micro-credentials. OUSL must adopt this trait to become the sought-after university for all graduates,” Prof. Thilakarathna further stated.
