13 Milco employees arrested after holding Chairman hostage

Kollupitiya Police yesterday night arrested 13 employees of Milco (Pvt) Ltd. for holding the company Chairman Renuka Perera hostage at the 6th floor of its head office in Colombo 3.

Police said a group of trade union activists had stormed into the place where Chairman Renuka Perera was having a meeting with the board of directors.

These trade union activists have detained the chairman and the members of the board without allowing them to go out demanding them to rectify an issue over an allowance. A police team attached to the Kollupitiya Police rescued the chairman and the directors after being informed about the incident to the police.

The employees who detained the chairman and the officials were later arrested. Investigations are on under the directive of Kollupitiya Police OIC IP Dushmantha.
