130kg Kerala cannabis haul by SLNavy

During a search operation off Uduththurei, Jaffna on Friday night, the Navy arrested a person in a dinghy, attempting to smuggle into the country, over 130kg (wet weight) Kerala cannabis.

The gross street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 43 million.

“The Sri Lanka Naval Deployment Veththalakerni in the Northern Naval Command, in its vigilance to curb illegal activities in and around the island’s waters, while conducting a search operation off Uduththurei, on suspicion, inspected a dinghy in the sea area, and discovered about 130kg and 600g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis in 61 parcels stuffed in three sacks.

The suspect, aged 44 and a resident of Uduththurei, Jaffna, along with the Kerala cannabis and the dinghy was handed over to the Maruthankerny Police for further investigations, the Naval spokesman said.
