The first Road Renovation project started under the government’s 1,500-km Road Renovation project, the 1,650 metre-long Polgasovita-Weniwelakola Pasal Mawatha, was recently carpeted and vested with the public by Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.
Following the opening of the road, Buddhist monks from nearby temples, engaged in a Pindapatha walk along the new road, with Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana joining in to offer alms to the monks.
Further, the road leading to Wenivelkola Siri Nandarama Temple had been carpeted and developed as per the instructions of the Minister, and he said to coincide with Vesak, a programme to carpet the roads leading to temples islandwide, was implemented on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The vesting of the road with the public was done with the blessings of the Ven. Maha Sangha who were present on the invitation of the Chief Incumbent of Wenivelkola Siri Nandarama Viharaya, Ven. Baragama Siri Gnanasiri Nayaka Thera. A large gathering including Secretary of the Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Provincial Director of the Road Development Authority, government officials, public representatives and local residents were present on the occasion.
