
The Appropriation Bill for 2027 was presented to Parliament today (07) by Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha, formally setting in motion the parliamentary process for next year’s Budget.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, is scheduled to deliver the 2027 Budget Speech on November 12, when the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill will also take place.
The Second Reading debate will be held for seven days from November 13 to 20, with the vote scheduled for 6.00 p.m. on November 20.
The Committee Stage debate will then be held for 19 days from November 21 to December 14.
The final vote on the Third Reading of the Budget is scheduled for 6.00 p.m. on December 14, concluding the parliamentary process for the 2027 Budget.
During the Budget debate period, Parliament will also meet on Saturdays, with sittings not scheduled on Sundays and public holidays.
For the Second Reading debate, 60% of the debate time will be allocated to the Government and 40% to the Opposition.
During the Committee Stage, the allocation will be reversed, with 40% of the time allocated to the Government and 60% to the Opposition. (Newswire)
