Weerasekara said that granting such promotions will have a commensurate effect on the ranks below them as well.“We had a severe shortage of ASPs. Normally, an Assistant Superintendent of Police has to supervise three Police stations. Due to the prevailing situation, some ASPs had to monitor eight or nine Police stations. With such a large number being promoted as Assistant Superintendents of Police, we can now easily supervise 560 Police stations effectively, he said, adding that through that he hopes to increase the efficiency of the Police as getting e promotions will boost their morale.
