39 Chinese nationals arrested over internet racket in Aluthgama
The Police on Saturday arrested a group of Chinese nationals in Aluthgama for allegedly defrauding money from people around the world through the internet.
Police were accompanied by Chinese officials to arrest the suspects. It is said that among arrested are three criminals wanted by China on whom even Interpol red notices have been issued.
Among the arrested are 33 men, five women and a child, police sources said.
They had reportedly been staying in Sri Lanka for six months. Some of them during questioning have said they were kept against their will and forced to engage in online financial crimes.
Police had also seized computers,smartphones and money from the suspects .
At the time of arrest, these suspects did not even have their passports and investigations have also revealed that they have been taken by the main smuggler involved in this racket, police sources said.
