75th memorial of Sir Henry Steele Olcott
The 75th memorial of Sir Henry Steele Olcott, who strengthened Sri Lankan Buddhist education domestically and internationally and for the perpetuation of the Buddha Sasana, was held at the Sri Lankan Embassy premises in Washington DC on Wednesday. This commemoration was held under the patronage of Elizabeth Horst, Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs of the US Department of State and Sri Lankan Ambassador in Washington DC Mahinda Samarasinghe. Chief Incumbent of the Maryland International Buddhist Temple, Chief Adhikarana Sanghanayake of North America, Most Venerable Katugastota Uparathana Nayake Thero and Chief Incumbent of the Washington DC Buddhist Temple, Most Venerable Maharagama Dhammasiri and other Maha Sangha were present on this occasion.The keynote speech at Sir Olcott’s 75th commemoration ceremony was delivered by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Bangladesh Prof. Sudarshan Seneviratne.
