9 in 10 dhal curries in Sri Lanka made with Australian lentils: Australian HC

Nine out of every ten dhal curries consumed in Sri Lanka are made using Australian lentils, highlighting the strong agricultural and food trade relationship between the two countries, the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka said.

The High Commission made the observation while congratulating Omega Traders on the opening of its new lentil and urid dhal processing facility in Wattala.

In a statement on ‘X’, the High Commission said the new facility demonstrated how Australian agriculture and Sri Lankan innovation could work together to create employment, strengthen food security and increase local value addition.

It said the investment builds on the longstanding partnership between Australian lentil growers and Sri Lanka’s food processing sector.

The partnership delivers benefits to both producers and consumers in Australia and Sri Lanka, the High Commission added. (Newswire)
