Dinura’s heroics help SL U-19 to commanding total

All-rounder Dinura Kalupahana who hit his career-best knock of 150 in 229 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes helped Sri Lanka Under 19 post a formidable first innings total of 432/8 declared while West Indies were 27/1 when bad light ended play on Day Two of the four-day match played at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium yesterday.

Mahindian all rounder, Dinura Kalupahana anchored his team’s innings at number 4 and played a responsible innings almost throughout the day. Dinura completed his 150 as Sri Lanka Under 19 declared their innings around 4:30 pm.

Sri Lanka resumed the innings at 163 for 3 wickets and overnight batsman Ravishan Nethsara was removed for 31 in the first over of the day and wicket-keeper Sharujan Shanmuganathan scored 17 in 32 balls with 2 fours as Lanka were 191 for 5 wickets. Dinura Kalupahana the stylish right-hander played fine strokes to reach his well-compiled century, further stayed at the wicket while spin all-rounder Malsha Tharupathi who stroked 65 in 58 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes played a good supporting role to Kalupahana. Vihas Thewmika hit 35 in 88 balls with 2 fours made a slow and steady innings and had good support from Kalupahana who was the hero for Lanka on day two.

Tarrique Edward was the most successful bowler claiming 3 for 99 while Isai Thorne and Nadan Sealy took 2 wickets each.

West Indies under 19 were 27 for 1 wicket in their first innings with the loss of opener Adrian Weir who scored 15 and Vihas Thewmika took the solitary wicket of the day at close.

The game will continue today for the third day and West Indies are trail by 405 runs and hope to continue their innings.
