The Women’s Squash Week celebration held at Cinnamon Lake squash courts last Sunday proved to be an exhilarating experience for all participants. Led by senior coach and former champion Yasmin Zarook, the event featured a multitude of engaging games that left attendees of all ages cheering in delight.

The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Kushani Daluwatte, Sri Lanka Squash Vice President and former champion, who not only organized this splendid gathering but also personally sponsored a delectable assortment of snacks and drinks for all participants, earning her the gratitude of everyone present.

It was heartwarming to witness the champions of yesteryears, Shivanthi Kottage and Yasmin Rajapakshe, back in action, sharing the court with the younger generation. Their presence served as a testament to the enduring spirit of the sport.

Several young girls from top squash-playing schools participated, including the current Senior and Junior National champion, Chanithma Sinaly, and well-known Women’s Open player, Dewmini Gallage. Additionally, some senior women players who are relatively new to squash were present, including Niroshi Jayasuriya, a Ladies Masters player and squash enthusiast.

Women’s Squash Week, observed from September 18th to 24th, is a global initiative designed to celebrate and elevate the status of female athletes in the sport. It champions women and girls’ involvement in all facets of squash, from playing to coaching to refereeing, and more.

Kushani Daluwatte, one of Sri Lanka Squash Vice Presidents and a former National Champion, has played a pivotal role in spearheading this celebration. The event at Cinnamon Lake courts, which took place from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, served as a testament to her dedication.
