The Supreme Court yesterday (11) issued orders to the sixteen Government universities to submit a report before November 10, on the incidents of ragging reported in the past three years and the measures taken to prevent them.
This order was given when considering a Fundamental Rights petition filed regarding the serious injuries sustained by Pasindu Harshana Silva, a first year student, during a party organised for first-year students on March 5, 2020, after he was hit by a large backhoe tyre which was rolled down a flight of stairs by senior students.
The attorney representing the petitioner stated that this petition was filed to obtain an order to prepare a set of guidelines to prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring in the university system in the future.
