The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has started an investigation into the comments made by Indika Dodangoda, who works in the Railways Department, against the Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.

This investigation has been started according to the request made by the Minister to the Commission to conduct an investigation in this regard.

The Minister has been informed in a letter signed by Commission Secretary Apsara Caldera, that the investigation has commenced.

Dodangoda, who works as a train driver, had made various statements in the media and social media that the Minister had accepted bribes from the relevant Indian company during the awarding of a construction contract of the Railways Department. The Minister had complained to the Criminal Investigation Department and the Bribery Commission. The Minister had taken legal action for damaging his reputation and accordingly Court issued an injunction against Indika Dodangoda.

Accordingly, it was included in the injunction that Dodangoda cannot make any similar comments against the minister directly or indirectly in any kind of interview, by himself or by using someone else, to insult the Minister through any kind of media, verbally or through social media.

The relevant injunction was delivered to Indika Dodangoda’s house by a fiscal on October 4. On September 15, the Minister had gone to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and had lodged a complaint. The Commission had informed the Minister that after studying the relevant complaint, the commission has decided to conduct a preliminary investigation on the matters mentioned therein.
