House unanimous on joint resolution

The resolution for the removal of the corrupt officials including the Chairman from Sri Lanka Cricket was unanimously passed in Parliament yesterday evening.

The resolution was moved by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and was seconded by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva.

The debate on the resolution was held throughout the day yesterday and more than thirty MPs from the ruling party and the opposition expressed their views during the debate.

Meanwhile, the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP) MPs were not present in the House when the vote was taken up in the evening.

The Opposition demanded that a vote should be taken for this resolution and State Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayake said both ruling party and the Opposition unanimously agreed to pass this resolution since it was brought on the consensus of both parties.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that both parties have approved the resolution.Therefore, the resolution was passed unanimously since the ruling party and the opposition submitted the resolution jointly.

Accordingly, the Speaker announced that the resolution was passed unanimously in Parliament.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena also expressed his regrets that the judicial process has been criticised in the House during this debate.
