CR notch up third successive win by overcoming Airmen

CR and FC clipped the Air Force wings to crush them by 29 points (5 tries, 2 conversions) to 5 (1 try) in their Nippon Paint inter club League rugby encounter played at Longden Place yesterday after leading 22-0 at lemons.

A match which was played under adverse weather conditions on a soggy and muddy outfield, CR dominated from the starting whistle to go for breather at 22-0 while acquiring the all important bonus point after planting four tries. The rivals managed to score a consolation try in the 67th minute of the second half to make the final score line 29-5 enabling the Red jerseyed men to notch up their third consecutive win and maintain their unbeaten record.

CR scored their first try in the second minute through winger Gemunu Chethiya which was not converted. After 8 minutes, no. 8 Lasindu Karunathilaka broke away from a scrum to score midright to make it 10-0. They kept up the pressure on the Air Force and Fly-half Thenuka Nanayakkara scored midright and he converted it himself.

The score read 19-0 before the breather CR. Centre Randy de Silva scored an unconverted try and CR led 22-0. In the 48th minute, CR winger Yasas Kavindu fell over for a try with Thenuka adding the extra points.

Thirteen minutes before the final whistle, Airmen reduced the deficit when centre Ayesh Kaluarachchi scored an unconverted try.
