Police Narcotics Bureau seized 262 cartons of foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 5.2 million, along with two suspects, at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Sri Lanka on January 06 and 07. One of the suspects, a 38-year-old resident of Nittambuwa, arrived at BIA on Sunday (07) from Dubai with 150 cartons of Manchester-type cigarettes and 6 cartons of Gold leaf and Platinum types of cigarettes in his luggage.
The other suspect, a 31-year-old resident of Tangalle, was arrested on Saturday (06) at BIA with 100 Manchester-type cigarette cartons. Both suspects were released on Police bail and are scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate Court on January 10 along with the seized cigarettes.
