Don’t postpone Polls in the guise of abolishing Executive Presidency – Sajith
Leader of the Opposition and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa urged that Polls due to be held this year should not be postponed in the guise of abolishing the Executive Presidency.
He said the SJB is of the view that the Executive Presidential powers are a major factor behind pruning people’s democratic rights and therefore, those powers should be reconsidered. However, he said that the SJB would not allow the incumbent government to postpone the elections depriving the citizens of their right to vote.
Premadasa made these remarks at an event on Friday (9), to donate a Smart Class Room, under the ‘Sakwala’ Programme, costing Rs 1 million, to St. Anne’s College, Colombo.
