Sri Lanka Youths Share the Experience: There is a Life Called Yunnan
When Pramitha saw the cover of the latest issue of “Link Times”, she felt extremely familiar and warm. The ethnic minority costumes on the cover reminded her of her summer trip to Yunnan, especially the wonderful experience of trying on Yunnan ethnic costumes at the Bisezhai Railway Station of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. This magazine also brought back many memories for the students, making their experiences in China even more unforgettable. Teacher Jiani, who once studied in Yunnan, was the leader of this summer camp and expressed affectionately in her speech that Yunnan was her second hometown.
Recently, the teachers and students of the Honghe Summer Camp of Lumbini Confucius Classroom in Sri Lanka concluded their ten-day trip in Yunnan. During this summer camp, the students reaped a bountiful harvest. They carefully studied Chinese language courses and listened to a series of splendid lectures covering Chinese history, China-Sri Lanka relations, and the spirit of traditional culture. The practical activities were equally rich and colorful. From Tai Chi, purple pottery throwing to movies watching, each activity made them reluctant to leave. In addition, they visited Honghe University and experienced the rich Chinese culture of the century-old Bisezhai Railway Station of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the ancient city of Jianshui on the spot.
Cheng Feng expressed his fondness for the life in Yunnan displayed in “China Newsweek South Asia Edition”: “I really like traditional Chinese architecture and Honghe University.” During the summer camp, he experienced the colorful club activities of Honghe University. The interactions with the Calligraphy Association, the Yizhi Association, the Language Exchange Association, and the Nanfeng Hanfu Club enabled him to appreciate the unique charm of Chinese calligraphy, Chinese chess, Hanfu, and Chinese characters. Under the demonstration of local intangible cultural heritage masters in Honghe, he personally experienced the subtleties of traditional Chinese skills such as tea art, guqin music, hand-painted fans, thread-wrapped handicrafts, and dragon-year paper-cutting, and appreciated the wonderful performances of the masters. The Lumbini Confucius Classroom has a long history and mainly targets middle school students and teenagers in the capital of Sri Lanka.
In recent years, Yunnan has focused on strengthening international communication and has actively carried out various cultural exchange activities, building a broad platform to promote friendly exchanges between China and South Asia, South East Asia. “LINK TIMES” is a full-color printed bi-monthly magazine in English, mainly targeting the business, educational, cultural and artistic circles, institutions, Chinese enterprises in the local area, and mainstream social groups who are interested in China and have exchanges with China in South Asia. The magazine has long been deeply involved in South Asia and is distributed in South Asian countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.
