Massive Agricultural revolution will be created under an NPP government – NPP Candidate Prageeth Ilangasinghe
The National People’s Power (NPP) Anuradhapura District Parliamentary Candidate Prageeth Ilangasinghe said that a massive Agricultural revolution will be created under an NPP government that will be formed in the future.
He said that the upcoming NPP government will pay close attention to the Economic development of the farmers, who are responsible for the country’s Economy.
It is especially designed to reduce the operating costs of paddy and other farmers. Under this, the farmer will be given the opportunity to rent the Agricultural Equipment and Machinery needed for farming, at affordable prices by centralising “Govijana Sewa Madyasthana”.
“Especially today, the cost of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery such as Tractors and Harvesting Machines have risen to a level that the farmer cannot afford and therefore, the production cost of paddy farming is also very high. Therefore, with the aim of reducing the production cost of paddy farming, the farmer is given the opportunity to get these Agricultural Equipment and Machineries on rental basis at an affordable price. He said the necessary measures for this will be implemented in the upcoming Budget.
Also, steps are being taken to provide paddy seeds suitable for the climate of our country to the farmers. Today, the hybrid seeds widely used by farmers are prone to diseases because the weather, climate and other environmental factors of our country are not compatible with such imported seeds. Therefore, steps will be taken to provide high quality seeds to farmers, including paddy farmers, that are suitable for the country, as per other Agricultural factors like weather, climate and soil. This also enables the farmers to reduce the high cost of applying insecticides, herbicides and fertilisers for paddy and other cultivations.
Further, steps will be taken to communicate the modern Technology used in the Agricultural sector to the farmers. This enables farmers to increase Land Productivity and improve Crop Quality, and this situation will pave the way for reducing post Harvest damage also.
