Technical issue forces Turkish Airlines flight to turn back to Colombo
A Turkish Airlines passenger flight from Colombo to Istanbul attempting a precautionary return to Bandaranaike International Airport late Tuesday after reporting a technical issue with its landing gear, airport officials said.
The Airbus A330, operating flight TK-733, reported the problem shortly after takeoff from Colombo’s international airport. The aircraft began circling over the sea to burn fuel before attempting to land, a standard safety procedure, officials said.
The flight was carrying 202 passengers and 10 crew members.
Airport authorities placed emergency response teams, including fire engines and ambulances, on standby as the aircraft prepared to land.
Officials said the situation was being monitored closely and that all necessary safety protocols had been activated.
The aircraft remained airborne as of late Tuesday night while preparations continued for the precautionary landing.
Turkish Airlines has not yet issued a public statement on the incident. (Newswire)
