‘Kaluwa’ arrested over murder case, soon after release on bail

A.D.N. Sandaruwan alias ‘Kaluwa’ (31), the main suspect in the murder of an aged woman in Battaramulla, allegedly committed the crime less than 24 hours after he was released on bail for possession of drugs, police said.

Kaluwa was arrested on Saturday (5) with another suspect in the case – Chamara Pradeep (38), who is also a drug addict resident in Mulleriyawa.

The two suspects had allegedly suffocated and killed a 72-year-old woman who lived alone in a house on Rohini Mawatha in Battaramulla, Pelawatte, and had fled after stealing her gold jewellery and other items from the house,

Police said Kaluwa lives in a house close to where the murder took place.

The police have recovered several items stolen by the suspects.

The suspects are to be produced in court.
