British Airways has resumed flights to Sri Lanka after a 10-year break, with its first aircraft arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on Saturday (October 24).

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, operating as flight BA2045 from London Gatwick Airport, arrived in Colombo in the morning, marking the airline’s return to Sri Lanka.

The airline is scheduled to operate three flights a week between London Gatwick and Colombo, strengthening air connectivity between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

The resumption of services is expected to provide a boost to Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, particularly as the UK remains one of the country’s key tourist markets.

The new service is also expected to facilitate business travel and strengthen trade, tourism and people-to-people connections between the two countries.

Advantis Aviation Services, a subsidiary of Sri Lanka’s Hayleys Group, will serve as British Airways’ General Sales Agent (GSA) in the country.

According to British Airways, the Colombo route will operate as a seasonal service during the winter schedule, offering passengers economy, premium economy and business class options. (Newswire)
