It has been revealed during an investigation by the officers of Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Bureau that 160 kilos of heroin and many weapons were brought ashore from the Kirinda Fisheries harbour five months ago.
The arrested trafficker is a 47-year-old man named Subramaniam Jayaprakash. This person is a resident of Hatbodhiya Road, Kalubowila.
A senior police officer said that he was arrested when he brought 4,800 drug capsules to be given to a smuggler who distributes these drugs in the vicinity of Modara and Mattakkuliya.
Based on the information revealed during the questioning of him, another 73,870 drug capsules were found during the inspection of the suspect’s house located in Kalubowila.
Investigations have revealed that these drugs are brought to Sri Lanka from India by boats and by air, hidden in the luggage of passengers coming from India.
The police say that the sale of these drugs, which are used as pain relievers, without the proper advice and prescription of a doctor is prohibited. The suspect is to be produced in court.
