The glamour boys of Sri Lankan rugby, CR and FC and Havelock SC are set for a mouth-watering clash when they meet in the 2022/23 SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round encounter at Havelock Park today. The kick-off is at 4.00 p.m.

This will also be the first outing of the new rugby season for the traditional rivals and a cracking game is on the cards as they would like to start the proceedings on a successful note.

The CR and FC, are of course, celebrating their Centenary this year and this game will be even more significant for the Longden Place Club as they clash for the coveted Mathysz Trophy.

In fact, the CR and FC are the holders of the Mathysz Trophy having defeated the Havies 52-47 on aggregate when the two teams played last during the 2019/20 season.

On that occasion, Havelock SC won a high-scoring first-round game 30-22 on their home grounds before the CR and FC came back strongly in the second-round fixture to pull off a sensational 30-17 victory at Longden Place.

But this time the CR and FC have added some young talent to their squad and are hoping that they would deliver the desired results with the backing of their experienced players.

In contrast, the Havies have retained most of their players from the previous season and are determined to make an early impact having finished second in the 2019/20 League Tournament.
