Abeyratne re-writes hammer throw record

Major General Mahesh Abeyratne entered record books once again when he broke the 55 age category Hammer Throw national record established by J. Wickermasinghe (27.69metres) in 2018. Abeyratne set up the new record by throwing 36.30 metres at the recently concluded Masters Athletics Sri Lanka Annual Championship which is the National trials for the 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championship to be held in China.

Abeyratne is the present holder of 45-50 age category national record and he has reached the Asian Masters qualifying standard twice and hope to erase Japanese athlete’s Asian record of 42.83.
