The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), led by former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has made a decision to revoke the party membership of Puttalam District ACMC Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Raheem due to his being accused of an alleged involvement in the smuggling of gold and mobile phones into the country.
The decision to expel MP Raheem from ACMC party membership was taken following a comprehensive inquiry commenced by the Disciplinary Committee of the party, ACMC Chairman M.S.S. Ameer Ali said.
The ACMC Chairman releasing a statement said that the ACMC further found that the conduct of MP Raheem, smuggling gold and mobile phones, has brought disrepute and discredit to the ACMC as a party and also the conduct of MP Raheem is contrary to what is expected of a Member of Parliament representing the ACMC, which is tantamount to a serious breach of party discipline.
“As per the Electoral Agreement signed between the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) and Muslim National Alliance (MNA) during the last General Election, MP Raheem contested under the symbol of the MNA,” the ACMC Chairman said.
According to the ACMC Chairman, the official notification of expulsion from party membership had been sent to MP Raheem and to the MNA General Secretary Naeemullah.
The ACMC Chairman also said that he expects that the MNA General Secretary would take immediate steps on this matter according to the promise he has made.
