Act to be amended to regulate electric three wheelers
Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman, Dr. Bandula Gunawardane said the Motor Vehicles Ordinance will be amended to regulate electric three wheelers in such a way that they can be registered.
He stated this at the press conference to announce the Cabinet decisions held at the Government Information Department yesterday (9).
The Minister stated that the existing Motor Vehicle Ordinance Act allows registration of diesel and petrol vehicles but there is no provision for registration of electric vehicles.
Programmes will be implemented to import electric cars, motorcycles and tricycles to Sri Lanka and Sri Lankans who remit foreign exchange to Sri Lanka through a commercial bank will have the opportunity to import electric vehicles for their family needs, and an official circular will be issued in this regard. He said that it will be possible to reduce the cost of fuel imports in the country as well.
