Action to defeat proposed ATB – Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday that action will be taken to defeat the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill (ATB), which can pave the way for a dictatorship.He said that the main aim of the Government is to destroy the democratic rights of the people through state brutality and terrorism brought by the Anti-Terrorism Bill. all the progressive forces to defeat the Bill,” he added. The Opposition Leader also said that he is ready to defeat this Bill together with all those who respect democracy in Parliament. He also said steps will be taken to protest against this Bill together with the public and civil organisations.

“This Government is always trying to suppress the people’s rights using various forces and not only the people’s electoral rights, but also human rights are being violated.

The Opposition Leader further alleged that if such a situation prevails, the country could be on the brink of dictatorship in the future and that the President is trying to seek power through State suppression as he can not come to power through the mandate of the people.
