Activist Dhaniz Ali remanded until Aug. 15

Activist Dhaniz Ali who was recently arrested for forcibly entering the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and disrupting the broadcast, has been remanded until August 15 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe.

The Magistrate ordered that the bail order will be announced on that day. The Magistrate also dismissed the request to conduct an identification parade.

When the matter was taken up, the Cinnamon Gardens Police informed the Magistrate that the Government had lost an amount of Rs. 181,400 due to the disruption of the broadcasting activities of the television corporation.

The 31-year-old, a resident of Webada in Kurunegala, was taken into custody in connection with the forcible entry to Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and attempt to disrupt telecasts on July 13.

On July 13, Danish Ali along with one of his aides had forcibly entered the national television Rupavahini and threatened the journalists and the staff who had disrupted the scheduled TV programme on air to broadcast his own message.

Attorney-at-Law Gunarathna Wanninayake appearing on behalf of the suspect pleaded that his client be released on bail.
