Actress arrested, bailed over car accident

Actress and former MP Upeksha Swarnamali was arrested by the Katugastota police yesterday morning over an accident involving her car at 5th Mile post on the Kandy-Kurunegala road.

She had arrived in Kandy to participate in an event and the accident has taken place when she was on her way to her relative’s house at Aladeniya.

The motorcyclist (18) who sustained injuries following the accident was admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and hospital sources confirmed that his condition is not critical.

Swarnamali was released on police bail. Acting Katugastota Police OIC. Chief Inspector K.M.C.Senaratne said she would be noticed to appear in court at a future date.
