Actress Damitha Abeyratne who was arrested by the Colombo North Divisional Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB), was ordered to be remanded till September 14 after being produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday.
She was arrested by Colombo North Divisional Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB) for allegedly forcibly entering Presidential Secretariat and damaging its property.
Actress Damitha Abeyratne was arrested on Wednesday by the Colombo North Divisional Crimes Detective Bureau after she participated in the ‘Black Hour’ protest near the Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla along with several other activists.
On May 25, Several suspects including Damitha Abeyrathne had arrested on several charges including illegal assembly, obstructing court proceedings and obstructing the duties of police personnel, in connection with a protest that took place in front of the Fort Magistrate’s Court when those arrested over the attacks on peaceful protesters at Galle Face and Temple Trees on May 09 were produced before Court.
President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularathne appearing on behalf of the suspect pleaded to release his client under a suitable bail condition.
The Magistrate observed that the suspect is currently on bail in relation to another case filed against her. The Magistrate stated that said protest had obstructed the duties of the police officers and the movement of the prison vehicles as well.
The Magistrate rejected the bail application made by the defence counsel as the suspect had committed similar offenses and fixed further inquiries for September 14.
