The series that will commence from September 1 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota was initially planned to be played in UAE but the hosts had to change their plan due to the non availability of venues in the region.
ACB had also contemplated staging the series in Zimbabwe but had to shelve their plans due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
This will be the first ever bilateral series featuring these two countries and the matches carry more significance since they come under the ICC ODI Super League.
Pakistan are currently in the fifth position with 40 points from nine matches while the Afghans are placed eighth with 30 points, having won all three matches so far. (Agencies)
