Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis ordered to release former MP Vijayakala Maheswaran accused of trying to create disunity among races by making a statement  that the LTTE should be rebuilt from her case yesterday (19). The Magistrate issued this order following the notification that the Attorney General will not proceed with this allegation. When the case was taken up for hearing on October 6, based on a motion filed in Court by the Organized Crime Prevention Division, the Attorney General’s letter was presented to the Court.

The letter from the Attorney General in relation to the incident had stated instructions that the MP be released from the allegation, as this case cannot be sustained and that the Court be informed.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, who considered these facts, requested that notice be issued to Vijayakala Maheswaran, to appear in Court on October 19. According to the notice, Vijayakala Maheswaran was present in Court and she was ordered to be exonerated and released.

This case had been filed against MP Vijayakala Maheswaran, alleging that she tried to create discord between the races by declaring that the LTTE organization should be rebuilt, on July 2 2016 at a ceremony held at Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna.
