0 36

The Attorney General expressed his strong objection before the Court of Appeal yesterday to Pastor Jerome Fernando seeking an order from the Court to prevent his possible arrest.

Deputy Solicitor General Shaminda Wickrema, who appeared for the Attorney General, raised objections when a Writ Petition submitted by Pastor Jerome Fernando was called before the Court of Appeal.

Accordingly, the Attorney General was ordered to file the objections related to this petition on or before June 14 and the Court ordered that the petition be called on June 15 for consideration.

In this petition, Pastor Jerome Fernando is requesting that a restraining order be issued to the Inspector General of Police and the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department as he is about to be arrested for committing an offense under the Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act through a statement he made during a religious service.
