AG to inform maintainability of Shaddick case on Aug. 29

The Attorney General was yesterday ordered to inform Court on August 29 regarding the maintainability of the case and summoning the witness over the case filed against former Minister Udaya Gammanpila for allegedly misappropriating Rs.20 million when selling the shares of Digital Nominees using a forged Power of Attorney to a businessman.

The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja.

The Colombo High Court ordered that the position of the Attorney General be informed regarding the objection of the defence to summon the testimony of third witness in the case through ZOOM technology as she is currently residing in Australia and not in a good health condition and the preliminary objection raised by the defence that case cannot be continued without witnesses.

The judge also declared that the court order regarding the summoning of evidence through the ZOOM technology will be given after the position of the Attorney General regarding the case.

Deputy Solicitor General Yuhan Abeywickrama appeared on behalf of the Attorney General. The Attorney General has filed a case against Minister Udaya Gammanpila during the previous government alleging that he had sold preparing a forged power of attorney and misappropriated Rs.20 million worth of shares in a company called “Digital Nominees” owned by an Australian businessman named Brian Shaddick.
