Ahan Wickramasinghe to captain NCC – Under 23 team
Former Royal College Colombo cricket Captain, Sri Lanka national Under 19 world cup player cum NCC premier player Ahan Wickramasinghe has been appointed as the Under 23 captain of NCC in the upcoming under 23 inter club cricket season .
Ahan was one of the prized products to come out of Royal College Colombo, winning the Observer-SLT Mobitel cricketer of the year runner up award while playing and captaining Royal College in 2021. Ahan also had the honour of representing Sri Lanka national Under-19 cricket team in the 2020 cricket world cup under Nipun Dananjaya.
He had a unique inter-school record partnership of 362 runs for the third wicket with Sadeesha Rajapaksa (152 n.o.) against Trinity college at Reid Avenue, where Ahan scored a blistering unbeaten knock of 210. They also broke the previous ground record for the third wicket between Sumithra ‘Charlie’ Warnakulasuriya who scored an unbeaten 181 and Ajith Devasurendara unbeaten 120 also against Trinity college Kandy in 1981. Ahan also scored an unbeaten century in the second inning against St.Peter’s College Bambalapitiya last season.
After leaving school he joined Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) to improve his career in club cricket and played in the Sri Lanka cricket premier tournament for NCC.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily News Ahan said, “it’s a real challenge, but I’m up for it. I wanted to thank my parents, family members, all my coaches thus far, friends and very specially Ravi de Silva my manager for the support given me to continue playing cricket in every way possible and I’m very much grateful to all of them. Now I will put all my effort and rally around with my NCC team mates to give off my very best to the club to achieve success.”
