The Katunayake Airport Police investigating a complaint by a passenger about the loss of USD 10,000 from his luggage confirmed that his money had not gone missing at the BIA.
A migrant worker from the US, a resident of Kerawalapitiya, Wattala, arrived at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on April 6 and lodged a complaint with the Airport Police about the loss of currency.
He complained to the Police that he came from New York to Abu Dhabi on flight number EY 100 and from there he arrived at Katunayake Airport by flight number EY 264. When he received the luggage at Katunayake Airport, he complained that he discovered the currency was missing.
After his complaint, Police checked the security camera footage of the airport and it was found that after his luggage was handed over to the airport by the plane, no one had touched it or checked it until he received it.
The Police also say that the security camera footage was shown to the passenger. Police say that it is clear that the money was not misplaced in this country.
