Former Peterite Swimmer, who also now represents SL Army Lieutenant Akalanka Peiris was able to break three National Records at “Army Swimming Championships 2022” and became the ‘Fastest Swimmer’ in the entire Sri Lankan Army.
The new three records were 50m backstroke, 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. The event was held at Panagoda Army Swimming Pool last week .
Akalanka who has very good records at both domestic and International swimming events once again aim to do well at the next Asian Games which is cheduled to be held in China next year. He also got a chance to represent world swimming meets , Common wealth Games and his ambition to to take part next Olympics in 2024 in France.
The 22 year old Akalanka became the first ever Sri Lankan student to sit for a Sri Lankan GCE A/L examinations outside Sri Lanka as he was granted special permission to write A/L exams in Jakarta Indonesia just prior to his preparations for the Asian Games in 2018 He represented Sri Lankan in 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which was held in Argentina.He also went onto represent 2019 World Aquatics championship as the only Sri Lankan male swimmer .
