All eyes on Dinupa as SL look for revenge in UAE
Sri Lanka will look to produce an improved performance when they start their campaign at the Asia Rugby Sevens Series third and final leg at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.
The Sri Lankan Tuskers have been drawn in Pool ‘A’ for this tournament and are tipped to make it to the Cup Championship along with the favourites Hong Kong, who are in line to make it three-in-row after winning the first leg in Thailand and the second leg in Inchon, South Korea two weeks ago.
However, this time the weather seemed to be in favour of Sri Lanka unlike it was in South Korea and that will be a huge advantage for the Tuskers, who lost to the Philippines 7-24 in the third/fourth playoff match under cool conditions.
Sri Lanka’s initial hurdle will be against China in the curtain-raiser match of the tournament and thereafter they will face Malaysia before taking on the powerful Hong Kong team in the last group encounter.
The cynosure of all eyes will be on schoolboy Dinupa Seneviratne, who has been drafted into the Sri Lanka Squad following his heroics for D. S. Senanayake College during the concluded Inter-Schools Rugby season.
