The Attorney General gave an undertaking before the Court of Appeal yesterday (30) that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will conduct an investigation in relation to the complaint made by a woman that she was being threatened by the former Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Janaka Ratnayake. Deputy Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne who represented the Attorney General, gave this promise when a writ petition filed by a woman named Gayatri Bimba, who is said to have had a close relationship with Janaka Ratnayake, was summoned.
A pledge was also given that the CID will not arrest the woman regarding a complaint made by Janaka Ratnayake against her.
The Court of Appeal directed the Attorney General to inform the court on the next day whether the statement from Janaka Ratnayake has been recorded in relation to his complaint.
This order was given when the case was taken up before the Appellate Court bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Nishshanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice M.C.B.S. Moraes.
