Ambalantota JVP member in job racket arrested
Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament yesterday that one of the JVP members in the Ambalantota Pradeshiya Sabha has led the racket in which Sri Lankan youth have been sent abroad fraudulently obtaining money from credit cards and engaged in many other frauds.
The Minister said that JVP member related to this incident has been arrested. He said that the arrested person has been remanded and investigations are being conducted in this regard.
The Minister said that most of the young people of Hambantota district who have computer knowledge have been caught in this racket and these people have been used as hackers.
He said that complaints have been received to the Foreign Employment Bureau regarding this kind of smuggling and it is regrettable that people are falling prey to these types of fraudsters despite the efforts made by the Bureau to aware people about these frauds.
Minister Nanayakkara said this while replying to a question raised by Colombo District MP Madhura Withanage. He further said that youth have been sent to Thailand and from there they have been directed to many other countries after giving money to engage in various rackets.
He also said that such a group of people who are working to destroy the lives of young people pressured the Sri Lankan expatriates to stop sending money to Sri Lanka.
