Ananda, Devi Balika, Kebithigollewa Central & Kegalu Balika honoured for producing highest number of serving Army personnel

The Sri Lanka Army has recognized 12 schools that have contributed the highest number of currently serving officers and soldiers, as part of its 77th anniversary celebrations held at the Panagoda Army Cantonment on Oct. 10.

According to the Army, the recognition ceremony was organized for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka’s armed forces, with schools receiving awards across four categories based on the number of their former students currently serving in the Army.

The awards were presented by Army Commander Lt. Gen. Nilantha Premaratne.

* Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo

* Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo

* Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo

Male soldiers

* Kebithigollewa Central College, Anuradhapura

* Nivaththaka Chethiya National School, Anuradhapura

* Badulla Central College, Badulla

Female soldiers

* Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle

* Anuradhapura Central College, Anuradhapura

* Ananda Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo

The anniversary celebrations also featured a military parade comprising 78 officers and 652 other ranks representing 25 regiments.

Seven Army personnel were awarded Army Commander’s Commendation Badges in recognition of their exceptional service, bravery and dedication during national emergencies over the past year.

Addressing the gathering, Army Commander Premaratne emphasized the importance of building a technologically advanced, professionally capable and soldier-centered Army prepared to meet future challenges.

He said the 77th anniversary marked not only a celebration of the Army’s history but also the beginning of a renewed commitment to modernization, transformation and national service.

The ceremony also paid tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in service, with a two-minute silence observed in their memory.

Former Army commanders, retired senior officers, serving personnel and representatives of the recognized schools attended the event. (Newswire)
