Football Sri Lanka (FSL) has got into their act by extending the contract of the foreign coach Andy Morrison for another two more years which was confirmed by the the incumbent President of FSL Jaswar Umar speaking to Daily News yesterday.

After a barren period of over 12 months before the elections due to the suspension by FIFA, FSL has commenced their activities by granting an extension for their overseas coach Andy Morrison who has rendered a commendable performance as the head coach with the National team.

With a mere five weeks of training after the FSL elections in last September, he guided the Lankan dribblers to a swashbuckling performance at the World Cup qualifying round matches, where they held the mighty Yemen do a 1-all draw in Colombo after losing the first leg in Saudi Arabia. They had a golden opportunity of winning the game at home if not for lapse of Wasim Razeek whose penalty clearance kick went astray.

Jaswar Speaking to Daily News said “At the outset we are very thankful to the Aspire authorities for obliging our request at a juncture where the country was passing through a tough passage. When we needed some one to take over after Amir Alagic’s exit, it became daunting task for us. With resources available from FIFA and AFC it was herculan task to run the national team endeavours along with our domestic event clander. However, I managed to to speak to Qatar Football authorities and got the support which is un imaginable gesture where the deal runs upto several millions covering our coaching staff.”

” We are extremely delighted to extend Andy’s contract and look forward to do same with other staff. We know the capabilities of him. With his team, we look forward to build a strong out for the 2025 SAFF Tournamnet which is our ultimate target of winning a Championship after several decades. We are also eyeing to host this tourney in the country.” Concluded Jaswar.
