The annual Pirith Pinkama organised by Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP)for the 61st time was held on Sunday (31) at the historic Kiri Vehera premises.
This all-night Pirith chanting ceremony was organised on the advice and guidance of Kiriwehera Chief incumbent Dr. Kobawaka Dhamminda Thera and the SLFP was represented by Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva, State Minister Jagath Pushpakumara, MPs Duminda Dissanayake, Pandu Bandaranaike and many others.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also participated in the Aloka Pooja held before the initiation of Pirith Sajjayana at Kiriwehera dagoba.
A Kapruk Pooja and a Mahasena Deva Pooja were also held before the start of the Pirith Sajjayana, which was attended by the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister.
Also, there was a procession from Kiriwehera to the Pirith Mandapaya to worship the Relics and a large number of people joined it.
Minister Amaraweera performed all the activities of this all-night Pirith Pinkama on behalf of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
The Minister said that the annual Pirith Pinkama is organised to wish the country and the people for the New Year 2024 and also to pay tribute to all the leaders who have passed away from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, especially the two great Prime Ministers of this country. He also mentioned that this pilgrimage was organised in memory of the Late Prime Ministers S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike and Sirimavo Bandaranaike.
