Another 18 Mn eggs to be imported from India

Another 18 million eggs will be bought from India before December 31, the Government Information Department said.

Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation has already imported 155 million eggs and another 18 million eggs will be bought before December 31.

Cabinet approval was granted in August 2023 to import eggs from recognized Indian egg farms by the Animal Production and Health Department for stabilization of egg prices in the local market.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished by Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister to further import eggs from Indian farms that have been recommended already by the Animal Production and Health Department since there is a possibility of an escalation of retail price of eggs within the local open market.
